Brake Maintenance
When should you have your brakes checked? How long do they last? At Jim Tubman Chevrolet, these are some of the questions we are frequently asked.

The brakes for every car and truck has different life spans which are impacted by your driving habits, salt, corrosion and age. A good rule of thumb would be that every time you rotate or change to your seasonal tires, to have a Certified Service Technician take a look at all your braking components such as brake fluid, lines and, of course, friction material. Pads, rotors and calipers can be the most costly repairs as they are the ones that take most of the abuse.

By removing the pads from the calipers and brackets, our Certified Service Technicians can clean and lube all the movable parts, then re-install them. This method will not only extend your brake life, but also save you money and ensure safe, smooth stops.

Are Your Brakes Signaling a Problem?
Sometimes, your Chevrolet’s vehicle brakes will alert you when there’s trouble. Whistling noises, chirping sounds, and grinding are indications that brake service is required. Here are some common causes of brake pedal pulsation and/or noise:

Worn brake pads
Heat-cracked or worn rotors
Loose-fitting brake pads in the caliper
Missing or damaged noise insulators
Uneven torque of lug nuts or caliper hardware
Vehicles often come equipped with a small, thin piece of metal attached to the brake pad to act as a warning indicator when the pad material is getting low and the brake pads should be replaced. This device makes a chirping noise on brake application, letting you know it’s time to have your brakes serviced.

If your vehicle is experiencing any of these warning signs, call and book your brake inspection today!
